200hr Teacher Training Course Curriculum

Module 1 - 6-Day Immersion:

This first portion can be taken alone, or you can continue on for the full 200hr teacher certification.

Topics covered

  • Basic forms of level 1 & 2 yoga asanas: variations, adjustments and anatomy

  • Basic yoga philosophy: 8-Limbs of yoga and overview of the Yoga Sutras

  • Intro to Ayurveda: doshas, eat & practice for your body type and season

  • Basic pranayam exercises, mantras and mudras

  • Tools to deepen and enhance your personal practice

Learning Objectives

Build self-awareness and be an excellent student of yoga and of life.

Module 2

Topics covered

  • Level 2 asanas, variations, modifications and adjustments.

  • Energetic principles of alignment, how to apply them in the poses.

  • Further exploration of ancient texts: The Yoga Sutras, The Bhagavad Gita

  • Subtle body anatomy: chakras, naadis, koshas, etc.


Learning Objectives


  • Build stamina and body awareness as you deepen your personal practice.

  • Know the different kinds of adjustments and when to use them.

  • Know the names of all the common yoga poses.

  • Be able to lead a short sequence of poses to peers in class.

Module 3

Topics covered

  • Level  3 asanas, variations, modifications and pranayam.

  • Exploration of philosophy themes, texts, and techniques as a theme for a class.

  • Teaching methodology, self-evaluation and improvement.

  • Yoga ethics, classroom ethics, business of yoga and entrepreneurship


Learning Objectives


  • Feel confident in any asana practice, though it may be challenging you know how to modify.

  • Be able to plan and teach a full class sequence to the public.

  • Be able to critique one’s own performance as a teacher and know how to keep improving.

The Yoga Sutras* – Patanjali, translation and commentary by Swami Satchitananda

Light on Yoga* – B.K.S. Iyengar

The Bhagavad Gita – Any translation is acceptable. We recommend Stephen Mitchell's translation.

The Key Muscles of Yoga – Ray Long

*Only Light on Yoga and The Yoga Sutras are required for Immersion participants.
You do not need to read all of the books before the start of training. Only the Introduction chapter of Light on Yoga must be read by first day of training.
